I have not posted much on this blog because we don't seem to have many followers. However, the season is approaching and thought I would at least give the dates and times.

Opening day is June 13. Market hours are 10am to 3pm. The market runs every Saturday all summer until September 26.

Check out the Swift Current and District Farmers' Market page on Facebook for more consistent information.

If you are considering being a vendor, please contact Sarah Galvin at sgalvin@shaw.ca

We only accept vendors who 'make it, bake it or grow it'. All other interested vendors can please contact the City of Swift Current, ask for Marlene, to participate on Market Square. All vendors will be considered.

What a wonderful Saturday. Hot, yes. Windy, yes. But under the tent it is always a summer paradise. Don't you agree that the music this summer is top rate? Thank you City of Swift Current for providing such a nice atmosphere.

Hey, did you notice the picnic benches on 1 Ave NE? Perhaps I am just a tad slow but I just noticed them today. It is a quiet place to regroup. Sit in the shade.

Every week now you will find more and more produce as the gardens mature. Already we have strawberries. This week...maybe...peas will be ready. Cross your fingers. Baby potatoes are here. Hey, little cabbages and cauliflower are ready.

Sorry that the BC Fruit truck wasn't there last week. They blew their motor with a truckload of fresh fruit. Makes me sick how they must have felt, sitting with fruit in this hot summer heat. They called at 7:30 am to let us know they wouldn't be here. Thoughtful even with this dilemma.

Strawberries are here! And fresh herbs and hot peppers also. Baby potatoes and possibly peas this week.
So...how did everyone enjoy last week? Awesome, eh? And such a beautiful day. Thank you to the City for the amazing job with the parade, the homecoming and all the parties. Thank you to all the volunteers who made it possible. Thank you to the Museum, the Art Gallery, the Lyric. Am I missing anyone? I'm sure I could thank almost every person in town.

2014 National Ag Day

Agriculture Council of America Announces 2014 National Ag Day Date

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) will host National
Agriculture Day on March 25, 2014. This will mark the 41st anniversary
of National Ag Day which is celebrated in classrooms and communities
across the country. The theme for National Ag Day is "Agriculture: 365
Sunrises and 7 Billion Mouths to Feed."
On March 25, 2014. The ACA will host major events in the nation’s capital including the Mix-and-Mingle Luncheon and the National Celebration of Agriculture Dinner.
Additionally, the ACA will bring approximately 100 college students to
Washington to deliver the message of Ag Day to the Hill.
These events honor National Agriculture Day and mark a nationwide
effort to tell the true story of American agriculture and remind
citizens that agriculture is a part of all of us. A number of
producers, agricultural associations, corporations, students and
government organizations involved in agriculture are expected to
participate.
National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America.
ACA is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders in the
agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to
increasing the public's awareness of agriculture's role in modern
society.
The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:

Understand how food and fiber products are produced.

Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.

Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry.

In addition to the events in Washington, DC on March 25, the ACA
will once again feature the Ag Day Essay Contest as well as the 2014 Ag
Day Poster Art Contest.
If you 'make it, bake it or grow it' you can join us under the tent. You have something else to sell? No problem. Market Square is accepting applications for vendors out on the Square. This is the link for the application form.
For those of you who are new to our market it is located in downtown Swift Current and runs from June 14 - September 30, 2014. We are under the big tent adjacent to The Bank of Montreal. This is transformed into Market Square for the summer.
